Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds
Flaxseed are an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in particular – this forms over half the fat in a flaxseed! Most pet foods contain an excess of omega 6 relative to omega 3, which can push pets into a pro-inflammatory state. But the ratio of essential fatty acids in flaxseeds, with four times more omega 3 than 6, helps to tip that balance back and makes them an excellent anti-inflammatory food, to help promote healthy skin and coat, joints and gut. Flaxseeds also contain lignans – 75 to 800 times more than most other plant foods! These have both oestrogenic and antioxidant qualities. And they are high in fibre, both soluble and insoluble, to promote gut health.
